Alchemical Thoughts

Challenge: Think about all the memories of Christmas past that are triggered now and pick one such memory. Pull a card for what you can learn from it. Pull another card for how this memory has shaped your current expectations of Christmas.

Two Tarot cards: The Chariot- VII and Page of Swords from the Santa Muerte Tarot deck

On what I can learn from Christmas Past: The Chariot- VII. I laughed. In reflecting, I recalled our family trips to New York to see aunt, uncle, and cousins, and I get the card of movement and travel. Sometimes travel could be good. My memories are treasured, of good experiences. Today, I dread travel, especially by aircraft. Back then, travel was more positive, and family at our destination were always loving, kind, and generous. Overall, whether near or far, Christmas can be a journey with a good destination.

On how this memory shaped my expectations: Page of Swords. There is a bit of seeking to cherish the memory of the past, a past that for many reasons cannot return or cannot quite be replicated. Part of me every so often says I need to write out those good memories while I can. Those times helped shape some of my values now. This is about experiences, which money definitely cannot buy. Do your best to remember, never forget.

Some of this is about the desire to accumulate experiences, something I can appreciate a lot more now as an adult.

As noted previously, you can find all the prompts here; Lisa Frideborg Eddy, the author, has put them in a PDF book that you can download for free. For this series, I am using the Santa Muerte Tarot deck.

Challenge: Contemplate how free you feel to express yourself and follow your dreams. Pull a card to reflect how free you actually are (as evidenced by walking your talk). Pull another card for something that could shut you down in 2019 unless you stay conscious and aware.

Two Tarot cards: Seven of Cups and Four of Swords from the Santa Muerte Tarot deck.

On how free I am: Seven of Cups. Looks like I have some choices, and knowing that is a good thing. On a side note, I even had a colleague in the field invite me to apply for a job position. I stayed where I am, for I am happy here overall, but again, it is good to have options. I am grateful for that.

On what to watch out for: Four of Swords. Initially I thought beware of isolation. However, the real issue for me is often not resting when I should. Burnout can be a danger, so I do need to remember to take rest and moments of self-care where and when I can.

Taking time to study and think deeply is important. Do not neglect this.
