Alchemical Thoughts

Challenge: What did you hope would happen in 2018? Did it happen? What do you hope will happen next year? Pull one card to what happened to your hopes and one for what you should be hoping for in 2019.

Two Tarot cards: Seven of Cups and King of Pentacles from the Santa Muerte Tarot deck

If anything, I hoped mainly for stability in 2018. At home, things were mostly stable. Outside the home, changes at work but nothing surprising. The bigger world was chaos, but that is outside my domain.

On what happened to my hopes in 2018: Seven of Cups. Interesting results. If anything, there were some options in 2018, some better than others. Did I miss something? Maybe but nothing that would bother me as long as stability was preserved. Overall, my hopes were good in the year. I even got to try a new creative project or two as well.

On what I should hope for in 2019: King of Pentacles. Practicality. Keep hoping for stability and a practical path. Gather resources as much as possible, then use them wisely as needed. Hope for good health too so you can care for those close to you.

As noted previously, you can find all the prompts here; Lisa Frideborg Eddy, the author, has put them in a PDF book that you can download for free. For this series, I am using the Santa Muerte Tarot deck.

Challenge: Think about one unexpected event in 2018 that shocked you. Pull one card for how you reacted. Pull a second card for what you can do to better prepare for the unexpected.

Two Tarot cards: Four of Pentacles and Six of Pentacles from the Santa Muerte Tarot deck

Another tricky prompt for me as I am in a stage of life where little can shock or surprise me. I keep expectations low to avoid shock or disappointment. Just when I think people cannot go any lower, they do. So I just remain stoic, silent, and move on. Too much stupidity out there to shock me.

On how I coped with shock: Four of Pentacles. This is not surprising. I mostly coped by keeping my own counsel and my thoughts to myself. Just keep to my own plans, and let the chips fall where they may.

On how to improve my response: Six of Pentacles. This puzzled me a bit, but I think it is about biding my time. Be prepared, keep your perspective. When it happens, just ride on through.
